Volkswagen Group expands Additive Manufacturing capabilities with Additive Industries' MetalFAB ystem

The Volkswagen Group acquired a second MetalFAB printer

Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 26 June 2023 – The Volkswagen Group, a global leader in the automotive industry, has further strengthened its commitment to additive manufacturing by acquiring a second MetalFAB system from Additive Industries. The Volkswagen Group, headquartered in Wolfsburg, is renowned as Europe's largest carmaker and operates twelve prestigious brands, including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini.

In 2018, Volkswagen established a 3D printing center to produce intricate automotive components using various 3D metal printing technologies. Additive Industries' MetalFAB system has been instrumental in Volkswagen's additive manufacturing success, enabling the production of metal components and earning recognition with a prestigious award.

Automation and safety
Volkswagen chose the MetalFAB system for its high level of automation, eliminating manual processes and enhancing safety. Additive Industries' exceptional service and support were crucial factors in the decision-making process. The system's modularity allows Volkswagen to expand production capacity without major investments.

With productivity features like full-field lasers and automated build changeovers, the MetalFAB system enables high productivity rates and lights-out operations. Volkswagen has also invested in parameter development and implemented the Powder Load Tool and Powder Recovery Station for efficiency and waste reduction.

Mark Massey, Chief Executive Officer at Additive Industries, says: “We as Additive Industries are happy to be able to provide Volkswagen Group with their second MetalFAB system. We are here to help them expand their capabilities in the field of additive manufacturing and move towards the next step in the automotive industry.”
