Field Service & Support Engineer - Detroit, MI (On-Site at Customer)

Additive Industries is a global leader in industrial 3D metal printing. Our modular MetalFAB systems are used in demanding industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and high-tech manufacturing. With offices in Europe and the U.S., we are expanding rapidly in North America and are seeking a Field Service & Support Engineer to support a key customer site in the Detroit, MI area. This position is primarily on-site at a customer location, providing dedicated support. Travel is minimal and mainly limited to training events or occasional meetings.

What you will do

As part of our Customer Lifecycle Support team, you will be the primary contact at the customer site. Your role is critical to ensuring maximum system uptime, performance, and long-term customer satisfaction.

  • Providing day-today on-site technical support for MetalFAB systems at the customer location.
  • Install, set up and qualify MetalFA systems and associated equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective repairs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, and process-related issues, both independently and in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Train customer operators and technicians on system operation, maintenance and best practices.
  • Monitor system performance, analyze recurring issues, and provide clear technical reports and feedback.
  • Support system upgrades, replacements, and continuous performance improvements.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor and on-site ambassador for Additive Industries.

What we are looking for

Education & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Industrial Automation, or related field) OR equivalent hands-on experience; ITAR regulations require U.S. persons (Citizen or Green Card holder).
  • Solid background in servicing high-tech or complex systems, including diagnostics, troubleshooting, and reporting; experience with training end users a plus.
  • Knowledge of control technology, electrical systems, and optics; experience with lasers, optical components, Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies, or Beckhoff PLC systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform under pressure.
  • Structured way of working.
  • Willingness to travel (minimal).
