AM Process Engineer

Additive Industries

Additive Industries is accelerating industrial additive manufacturing (AM) by offering modular metal laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) 3D printing systems and seamlessly integrated information platform to high-end and demanding industrial markets. With substantially improved reproducibility, productivity, and flexibility, Additive Industries redefines the business case for metal additive manufacturing applications across many industrial sectors.

What you will do

Additive Industries is looking for a Process Engineer to join the Process and Application Development Team, in our Eindhoven HQ. In this multidisciplinary team, your challenge will be supporting the development of LPBF printing process parameters for a range of materials on our industry leading platforms.

With our robust 500W G2 series MetalFab industrial Metal AM printer well established in the market, & our pioneering 1kW 420K system recently launched, we continually support our customers by developing the printing process parameters for novel materials and applications. As part of this team, you will be responsible for the development of stable print process parameters for a number of materials, utilised by a variety of end-use market customers.

With the support of Process & Application Team members, you will be exposed to entire process chain of parameter development – from requirements through to testing & analysis in our state of the art Materials Lab. Understanding the importance of measurable data, and drawing concise conclusions from this, you will provide key feedback from process development builds via the testing of these components.

During your development, you will learn to set up a test plan for a specific material parameter. You will define the tests for process development and the evaluation of the test specimens based on material characteristics and geometrical accuracy. You will execute your test plan by operating our metal printers to print samples and test the printed samples in accordance with industry standard specifications.

You will analyse the resulting test data, and document all performed tests. Based on these results, you will help draw conclusions to help identify optimised solutions for robust process parameter sets. Furthermore you will continually discuss possible machine hardware improvements with our R&D team and help to implement these in our MetalFab systems of the future.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up test plans & designing/slicing test builds.
  • Preparing, executing, and analysing Design of Experiments (DoE) to support LPBF process parameter development.
  • Operating the LPBF metal AM systems to print samples and products.
  • Analysing experimental results, data analysis and drafting conclusions.
  • Applying statistical methods to evaluate experimental data and support data-driven decision making.
  • Operating materials lab equipment according to ISO / ASTM test standards and delivering high quality test results.
  • Understanding of the laboratory equipment – calibration, cleaning and organising maintenance.
  • Documenting & presenting test activities and results.
  • Executing process development and testing in a structured and precise manner.
  • With your strong analytical skills, you are able to perform root cause analysis on specimens, to identify optimised solutions.

Knowledge & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor or Master in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related engineering or applied science discipline.

Experience/ skills:

  • Experience with conducting experimental research
  • Pragmatic and hands-on mentality
  • Analytically strong and systematic problem-solving mentality
  • Prior experience with metal laser powder bed fusion is a plus

Personality characteristics

This role will appeal to an eager, proactive and hands on Engineer early in their career. Passionate for Metal AM & in particular the Process side of LPBF; really wanting to understand what happens in the process chamber of the machine.
