Function Description
Additive Industries is looking for a Senior AM Applications Engineer to join the Additive Industries Team in the United States. In this multidisciplinary team, you will carry out application development activities focusing on the support of new and existing customers.
In this role you will manage our benchmark printing & part assessment activity, supplying high quality benchmark components & design assessments to our customers both new & existing. Technically focused, you will work closely with a small and dedicated team of Process and Application Engineers (P&AD) in Eindhoven to deliver high quality AM parts. Together, you will form part of our Global P&AD team. Working with a variety of materials you will find solutions to complex applications from a variety of industry sectors to showcase the MetalFab systems capabilities.
Within this multidisciplinary team, you will also work closely with our commercial colleagues translating customer needs into AM solutions with proven benefit. Being customer facing, you will travel to customer sites, understanding firsthand the customer requirements & translating these into viable AM solutions that meet their individual business case. Being a good communicator, you will walk the customer through the decision-making process, providing feedback on the technical suitability & business case for their applications.
You will gain a fundamental understanding of the operation of the MetalFab, being hands-on with the system to ensure the output of high-quality components. In addition to the Process & Application Development team, you will communicate regularly with the Sales, Marketing & Product Management teams within Additive Industries Eindhoven HQ.
As an experienced team member, you will provide a source of technical competence. This will be utilized on a daily basis to transfer knowledge across the team. You will prepare technical documentation and present their output both internally and to customers.
Further, you will provide customer support and advice when needed, also delivering training courses, both pre-defined and tailored to customers’ needs and where travel may be necessary.
The ingredients for a successful performance are:
- Proven track record of working through the entire metal AM Powder bed fusion value chain, from design through to testing and qualification
- An in-depth understanding of metal additive manufacturing and its associated benefits
- Knowledge of the industry standard materials used in metal AM, and their specific applications and market sectors
- Knowledge of different powder bed metal AM systems & their relative benefits/drawbacks
- An innovative approach to problem solving, with strong attention to detail coupled with a willingness to learn and adapt to situations
- Scope, manage and deliver projects in a timely manner
- Clear communication- and presentation skills for both internal and external customers
- Willingness to travel to customer sites
- To have the ability to navigate through demanding situations between internal- and external customers with a good sense for stakeholder management
Work location and Onboarding
The successful candidate will have access to the facilities of a partner company in the Los Angeles area, which can be used as a regular office. Remote work is also possible, subject to agreement with the Team Lead.
To ensure a smooth start, the role includes a comprehensive onboarding program at our headquarters in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The candidate will spend approximately 2–3 weeks onsite, meeting the team, learning our systems and procedures, and collaborating on practical cases with the Applications team before returning to the U.S to deploy this knowledge.
Reporting
The Senior AM Applications Engineer NA reports to the Team Lead Applications, based in Eindhoven (The Netherlands).
Knowledge and experience
Education:
- Bachelor in an engineering discipline (ideally Mechanical)
Experience/skills:
- A minimum of 5 years’ industrial experience designing and Manufacturing metal AM parts through the entire AM value chain (Aerospace is a plus)
- Fluent with CAD software and 3d modelling (experience with topological optimization, generative design or AM process simulations tools is a benefit)
- Fluent with AM build preparation software tools (preferably Materialise Magics or Netfabb), and in particular their use for support structure design
- Experience with development of laser powder bed fusion process parameters
- A strong communicator both written & verbally, to a range of stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder management
- Pragmatic, solution driven and hands-on mentality

- Analytically strong and systematic problem-solving mentality
- Hands on experience with additive manufacturing processes is a plus
