Job description

Additive Industries is looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to join the Sales & Applications Team in Eindhoven. In this multidisciplinary team, you will carry out application development activities focusing on the support of new and existing customers.

Additive Industries has successfully launched their industrial metal Additive Manufacturing system, the MetalFAB. To support our customers, we develop new applications, process parameters for various materials, and provide solutions for simulation and process monitoring of the AM process.

In this role you will manage our benchmark printing & part assessment activity, supplying high quality benchmark components & design assessments to our customers both new & existing. Technically focused, you will work closely with a small and dedicated team of Application Engineers in Eindhoven to deliver high quality AM parts. Working with a variety of materials you will find solutions to complex applications from a variety of industry sectors to showcase the MetalFab systems capabilities.

Within this multidisciplinary team, you will also work closely with our commercial colleagues translating customer needs into AM solutions with proven benefit. Being customer facing, you will travel to customer sites, understanding firsthand the customer requirements & translating these into viable AM solutions that meet their individual business case. Being a good communicator, you will walk the customer through the decision-making process, providing feedback on the technical suitability & business case for their applications.

You will gain a fundamental understanding of the operation of the MetalFAB, being hands-on with the system to ensure the output of high quality components and test samples. In addition to the Applications & Sales Team, you will communicate regularly with the Marketing, Product Management and Materials & process development teams within Additive Industries Eindhoven HQ, & global support centers.

As a Senior member of the team, you will provide a source of technical competence and guidance for more junior members in the team. This will be utilized on a daily basis to transfer knowledge across the team. You will prepare technical reports and present their output both internally and to customers.

Further, you will provide customer support and advice when needed, also delivering training courses, both pre-defined and tailored to customers’ needs and where travel may be necessary.

The ingredients for a successful performance are:

  • Proven track record of working through the entire AM value chain, from design through to testing and qualification
  • An in-depth understanding of metal additive manufacturing and its associated benefits
  • Knowledge of the industry standard materials used in metal AM, and their specific applications and market sectors
  • Knowledge of different metal AM systems & their relative benefits/drawbacks
  • An innovative approach to problem solving, with strong attention to detail coupled with a willingness to learn and adapt to situations
  • Scope, manage and deliver projects in a timely manner
  • Clear communication and presentation skills for both internal and external customers
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites

Reporting

The Senior Applications Engineer reports to the Head of Application Development.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline (ideally Mechanical)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ industrial experience designing and Manufacturing metal AM parts through the entire AM value chain
  • Fluent with CAD software and 3d modelling (experience with topological optimization, generative design or AM process simulations tools is a benefit)
  • Fluent with AM build preparation software tools (preferably Materialize Magics or Netfabb), and in particular their use for support structure design
  • Experience with development of laser powder bed fusion process parameters
  • Dutch & English speaking & desirably German to a competent level
  • A strong communicator both written & verbally, to a range of stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Pragmatic, solution driven and hands-on mentality
  • Willingness to grow and learn
  • Analytically strong and systematic problem-solving mentality
  • Hands on experience with additive manufacturing processes is a plus
