Function Description

Are you looking to start a career in cutting edge 3D printing as well as spending time with some of the world’s most progressive manufacturing companies across the globe? Additive Industries is initiating a new training scheme for early career graduates in order to create the next generation of AM engineers. Recruitment will be by a rigorous enrolment program run every 6 months. The final handpicked few with then be selected to undertake an intensive training program so they can become expert in the use of the MetalFAB1 – the market leading 3D printer in metal AM.

As part of a global network of Global Process and Application Development Centers, the recruits will be required to spend extended periods of time at customer locations around the world. Additive Industries are committed to enabling users to achieve lowest unit part cost, with the highest quality requirements. The AM Engineers will work intimately with the customer at their manufacturing location to help them achieve the requirements for their hi-tech components.  

The ingredients for a successful performance are:

  • Provide general training to customers’ operators and technicians 
  • Execute condition monitoring, evaluate, diagnose and resolve problems together with the CLS team
  • Provide support to the customers with Process and Application Development
  • Provide support to the customers with preparing print jobs
  • Provide support to the customers with Setting up the MetalFAB1 for printing
  • Excellent social, communication and presentation skills 
  • Quick in understanding the customer needs
  • Operating, maintaining and supervising the MetalFAB1 systems to achieve 24/7 operation, and remote monitoring the print process 
  • Report encountered issues and propose possible solutions
  • Preparing print jobs using job preparation software like Materialise Magics or Autodesk Netfabb

The Field Application Engineer reports to the Manager Process & Application Development

Knowledge & Experience


  • Bachelor or Master in Material Science, Physics or Mechanical Engineering


  • Analytically strong and systematic problem-solving mentality
  • Experience with CAD software
  • Pragmatic and hands-on mentality
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Team player able to relate well with people
  • Willingness to stay at costumer site (abroad) for approximately 3-4 months
