Job mission

Additive Industries is growing fast. We are therefore scaling our global sales organization to address the shear business potential and manage all opportunities ahead of us. The Business Development Manager is responsible for dramatically expanding the sales of our metal 3D printing systems in North America, engaging closely with existing and new customers; and leveraging the Additive Industries Process and Applications Development Centers. In this role, you will use your expert knowledge of additive manufacturing and the industry to develop new business and drive growth. You will visit (potential) customers, give demonstrations of the system and software and manage the decision making process. You uncover the opportunities to move prototypes into production and manage the part lifecycle from design to material property characterization to part qualification utilizing the Additive Industries Process and Application Development Centers.

With a technical / commercial background in the aforementioned market verticals where powder bed fusion parts are in transition to production, you are eager to drive a consultative and technical selling approach. You are a self-starter with a passion for selling and entrepreneurship, well organized and punctual, a good listener and a subject matter expert in the markets Additive Industries targets: aviation, space, automotive, energy and high-tech equipment parts. You share our passion of defining and realizing the best 3D printing solutions for our most demanding customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively develops and grows the sales pipeline in North America in aforementioned market verticals through cold contacting, conferences, references, own network, etc.
  • Builds and maintains strong professional relationships with existing and new customers
  • Engages as an Additive Manufacturing subject matter expert in technical discussions with (potential) customers on how to develop their material applications and be their sparring partner to find the most efficient and successful approach to realizing their applications
  • Developing and maintaining close relationships with all stakeholders at the customer and internally at Additive Industries to address all issues and tasks that are key to success of a project. Key interfaces would be management, engineering, operations at the customer side, and P&AD, R&D and Operations in Additive Industries.
  • Delivers presentations during customer visits, exhibitions, conferences, seminars and webinars.
  • Developing market intelligence reporting regarding potential customers, applications and target markets and using this knowledge for initiating, developing and executing the account management plan for (potential) customers.
  • Generating input for (long term) product roadmap
  • Willingness to travel 20% - 50% of time


The Business Development Manager North America reports to the Director Sales North America


Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or material science. A Master’s degree would be desirable. Other degrees considered with commensurate work experience.
  • At least 5 to 10 years of additive manufacturing experience in at least one of aforementioned target markets
  • Strong technical knowledge of metal additive manufacturing and materials
  • Proficiency with sales and business development fundamentals
  • Ability to recognize growth opportunities and capitalize on them.
  • Successful and demonstrable track record in building long term customer relationships and developing sales pipeline
  • Effective communicator (verbal, written and presentation), with a demonstrated ability to influence through a straight-forward style of communication.
  • Creative and commercial mind-set, ability to build effective relationships and operate in a broad range of functional areas in a team environment.
  • Strong program / project management skills to drive and develop customer opportunities from start to end.
  • Good presentation and negotiating skills are essential.
