Job mission

We are looking for an Additive Manufacturing Application Engineer to support the Additive Industries’ Process & Application Development team. Together with our customers you will design new products, develop new applications and optimize existing designs for additive manufacturing. You will capitalize on the design freedom additive manufacturing offers and take all aspects of Additive Manufacturing into account. Activities included are among others analysing and translating functional requirements into topologically optimized product designs, simulation and determining the most effective AM build and support strategy and finishing processes. You prepare the products to be manufactured on the industrial MetalFAB1 3D printing system and verify if the product meets the functional, technical and financial requirements of the end user.

The ingredients for a successful performance are in sum:

• Creating and expanding knowledge of 3D metal printing according the selective laser melting process
• Structured development, reporting and sharing of part manufacturing strategies by determining materials characteristics and equipment settings
• Operating and supervising the MetalFAB1 systems, monitor print process, reliability, analyse deviations and propose improvement opportunities.
• Power user of Magics, Netfabb, and 3DXpert build set-up software;
• Wizard level machine operation to print to most difficult part candidates;
• Interface with engineering for customer specific needs;
• Meet project deadlines through coordination of the additive manufacturing process;Defining, executing and reporting of materials characteristics quality testing and printing of actual parts. Shares and discusses the results with the Additive Industries’ team members
• Evaluating end-user test parts in design for additive manufacturing, prepare and execute part printing on the test systems

Reporting

The Additive Manufacturing Application Engineer reports to the Manager Process & Application Development

Knowledge and experience

 Education

• Bachelor or Master in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or Physics

Work experience

• At minimum 3 years of experience in metal additive manufacturing with an emphasis on build design and set-up;
• Experience using Materialise Magics, NetFabb or 3DXpert software programs;
• Experience in the application of design for additive manufacturing;
• Proven skills in drawing interpretation, following customer specifications, CNC machining;
• Experience and discipline to write technical reports on a daily basis to various stakeholders in the organization;
• Practical experience in providing demonstrating systems to potential and current customers;
• Materials knowledge of metals and alloys
• Previous experience in process parameters development for LPBF is a plus
