With substantially improved reproducibility, productivity, and flexibility, Additive Industries redefines the business case for additive manufacturing applications in aerospace, automotive, medical technology and high-tech equipment.

Function description

Additive Industries is looking for an Applications Engineer to join the Process and Application Development (P&AD) team in Bristol, UK. In this multidisciplinary team, you will carry out application development activities focussing on the support of new and existing customers.

Additive Industries successfully launched their industrial metal Additive Manufacturing system, the MetalFAB. To support our customers, we develop the process parameters for various materials, new applications, and provide solutions for simulation and process monitoring of the AM process.

You will gain a fundamental understanding of the operation of the MetalFAB, being hands-on with the system to ensure the output of high quality components and test samples. You will communicate regularly with the commercial, marketing and development teams in Additive Industries Eindhoven HQ, global centres and work closely day to day with a small, focussed team in the Additive Industries Bristol facility where you will be based.

The main responsibilities of the Applications Engineer will include supporting the commercial team to deliver high quality benchmark components, assessment of parts and applications for their suitability, technical feedback and business case development. You will prepare technical reports and present their output both internally and to customers.

Further, you will provide customer support and advice when needed and deliver training courses, both pre-defined and tailored to customers’ needs and where travel may be necessary.

The ingredients for a successful performance are in sum:

  • An in-depth understanding of metal additive manufacturing and its associated benefits
  • Experience working through the entire AM value chain, from design through to testing and qualification
  • Knowledge of the industry standard materials used in metal AM, and their specific applications and market sectors
  • An innovative approach to problem solving, with strong attention to detail coupled with a willingness to learn and adapt to situations
  • Scope, manage and deliver projects in a timely manner
  • Clear communication and presentation skills for both internal and external customers

Reporting

The Applications Engineer reports to the Head of Application Development.

  • Bachelor in an engineering discipline

Experience/skills:

  • Fluent with CAD software and 3d modelling (experience with topological optimisation, generative design or AM process simulations tools is a benefit)

  • Experience with development of laser powder bed fusion process parameters
  • Pragmatic and hands-on mentality
  • Willingness to grow and learn
  • Analytically strong and systematic problem-solving mentality
  • Hands on experience with additive manufacturing processes is a plus
